At 1,100 meters above sea level, Wae Rebo is one of the highest villages in Indonesia. Wae Rebo village, currently inhabited by only 1,200 people, is located around 110 KM from Labuan Bajo, Flores.
Who is the founder of Wae Rebo village
The founder of Wae Rebo Village is Empu Maro. He built the village 100 years ago, and now it is reaching the 18th generation of descendants. The unique thing is the Mbaru Niang traditional house, covered in palm grass from the roof to the ground.

Itinerary: Open Trip 2 Days Wae Rebo
Day 01. Labuan Bajo – Denge village – Wae Rebo village (Lunch and dinner)
- Start the overland trip at 7:30–8:30 am local time.
- Drive from Labuan Bajo to Denge Village for 4-5 hours.
- Lunch at a local restaurant in Denge village.
- Ride an Ojek or a motorbike from the parking area for 15 minutes to Pos 1.
- From Pos 1 to Pos 4, walk for 45 minutes.
- Walk from Pos 4 to Pos 7, about 1 hour. Walk to the village for 10 minutes.
- Welcoming ceremony in the chief’s house.
- Continued by seeing and experiencing the local community’s daily life.
- Dinner and stay at Mbaru Niang (Wae Rebo traditional circular cone-shaped houses with unique architecture).
- Hiking from Denge to the top of Wae Rebo Village will take 2-3 hours, depending on body endurance.
Day 02. Wae Rebo village – Repi beach – Labuan Bajo (breakfast and lunch)
- Enjoy the sunrise.

- Sightseeing around the Village
- Trekking down from Wae Rebo to Pos 1 takes 2 hours. Riding a motorbike or Ojek to the parking area takes 15 minutes.
- It takes 1 hour and 30 minutes to drive from Denge village to Repi beach. Enjoy your lunch in a local restaurant in Lembor.
- Lembor Spider Web Rice Fields.
- 2-hour drive back to Labuan Bajo; arrive in Labuan Bajo about 5-6 PM

- Essential Gear: Bring earplugs (essential for shared, thin-walled sleeping quarters) and a sleeping bag liner or thin sleeping bag.
- Sleeping Setup: You will sleep on woven mats (tikar) with mattresses, pillows, and blankets provided.
- Prepare for Insects: There are no bed nets; bring repellent, as insects may be present.
- Rest Early: After a long trek, the village is quiet, electricity cuts off around 10 PM
